Yes, that’s right- they’ve been driving changes in the English language. ♀ 📈
There seem to be 3 main reasons:
Women tend to be more socially aware & empathetic, which may translate into a greater facility for linguistic disruption. 👂
Women often have larger social networks, which means they’re more likely to be exposed to a greater diversity of language innovations. 👩👩👧👧 👩👩👧👧
Some suggest that there may be neurobiological factors at play. 🧠
These factors contribute to women, especially young women, leading about 90% of linguistic changes today.
However, the exact reasons are not fully understood & more research is needed in this area.
